Freely ‘inspired’ by the Song of Songs

After twenty years, the transmission of Tu non mi perderai mai by Raffaella Giordano to Stefania Tansini may create expectation.
Protagonist of the ‘historical’ contemporary, (Carolyn Carlson, Pina Bausch, Sosta Palmizi), still tireless instigator of sensitive choreographic encounters, Giordano relies on a special artist to re-interpret a solo among her most mysterious and elusive. Freely inspired by the ‘Song of Songs’, Tu non mi perderai mai is the one that best suits Tansini’s intimate and ‘sacred’ simplicity. At stake is the difficult passage of witness from one body to another, above all the indication of a path that can and must derail with unexpected outcomes.

In the Canticle, Giordano auscultated the Hebrew text with hypnotic results. Impossible to tear one’s eyes away from his minimalist, slow and sober actions; from the arms forming perfect roundnesses, skimming the ground as if it were the skin of the beloved… but the subtle loving call remained unheard. Presence/absence in a desert of gestural fragments, the author/dancer lingered between an unlived life and a vanished desire. Thus the play could resurrect with that melancholic extraneousness from Tansini’s thousand shrunken tensions. Surely here the message will become a medium of sensory tenderness and painful challenges, all to be discovered.
